My approach
See it clearly.
Own your part.
Take the next step.
With some clients, I use an approach built around three steps: Awareness, Acknowledge and Action. It gives our conversations a practical direction while leaving room for what your situation requires.
Awareness
Understand what is happening.
Look at the situation, the patterns and the impact of your leadership. What are you seeing? What might you be missing?
Acknowledge
Be honest about your part.
Recognize what is true, what is within your control and what you need to take responsibility for. What needs to be addressed?
Action
Choose what you will do next.
Turn that understanding into a specific commitment. Decide what you will do, when you will do it and how you will review progress.
Care about the person.
Be clear about the standard.
Equip, Empower and Encourage describe the philosophy behind how I develop people: help them build skills, give them meaningful ownership and support them with honest feedback.
Caring includes the difficult conversation. It means recognizing progress while being clear about what needs to change.
We start with a situation you are facing. What is happening? What have you tried? Where are expectations unclear? What part of the problem belongs to you?
The work requires your willingness to reflect, hear candid feedback and act. The approach serves the situation, rather than forcing every conversation into the same sequence.
